I put my car back together yesterday evening, but then the car alarm started going off at 4 am last night. I turned the alarm off; it went off again; I unlocked the car; it went off again. I ended up disconnecting the battery.
To do:
1. Fix Alarm
2 Change Oil
3. Hood Latch
I am looking forward to having my own car again, again. This time with new wheels and tires, and less rust.

Could be a bad ground - is it an aftermarket alarm? Is your door ajar light coming on even when no doors are ajar?

What’s wrong with the hood latch? Any chance the alarm is related?

Are you my neighbor?
Nah, you’ve only had this happen once.

It will not latch shut. I think there is a pin broken off and missing after inspecting the part. The new latch arrived yesterday. I think I will be trying to fix everything on Saturday.

I think I shorted it with the replacement screw that is too long and is currently stuck and sticking halfway out of the car. The car was okay for 6 hours until a thunderstorm started rolling in. Weird. I am going to get the screw out and try and use a plastic tab that is used for the trunk interior. I have a few extra and hope it prevents a short.

There could be a bad ground maybe from getting paint in a rear door jam. The alarm is stock and I had no alarm problems before these repairs. The door ajar light goes off when the doors are shut.

The hood latch has been broken long before this alarm problem. The horn and its wiring most likely got chemicals on it when I was trying to get the hood latch working. Maybe the chemicals are causing a short?

Cool - I ask about aftermarket as my old Subie had an aftermarket alarm when I bought it used from somebody and whoever had installed it was an idiot....if I set the alarm, it used to go off completely at random similar to your situation. The car, nor anything in it were never that valuable, so I just never used the alarm. I think it was a ground or some such as the door ajar light for the trunk stayed on or flickered constantly, but despite my checking the latch switch wiring and finding nothing wrong, I could never figure out what was wrong with it...
....the fact the alarm electronics box under the dash was mounted with ‘this side up’ facing downwards was a sign the installers were not that good at their jobs though....

oh come on, rust in a car is great!
